Regional and Remote Councils Collection and Recycling Event Fund
Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) recently announced a new funding initiative aimed at supporting Local Government in regional and remote areas. The program aims to assist existing efforts to sustainably manage end-of-life tyres (EOLTs) and the procurement of products that contain Australian tyre-derived recycled content.
The TSA Regional and Remote Collection and Recycling Event Funding Program (Event Funding Program) has been established to:
ascertain indicative logistics costs associated with collecting and recycling end-of-life tyres (EOLTs) from regional and remote council locations and directing these to TSA accredited recyclers.
capture an understanding of logistics systems used to collect, aggregate and transport EOLTs and how these impact on costs, manual handling requirements, occupational health and safety and contamination management.
incentivise the procurement of Australian tyre-derived recycled products and materials as a way of fostering the circular economy.
Grants of up to $22,000 will be provided to successful applicants to assist with logistics, recycling, and promotional costs. The grant includes an allocation to assist Councils with a project or initiative that utilises Australian tyre-derived recycled content.
The Event Funding Program is a pilot program. The knowledge gained from the program will be used to evaluate the efficacy of the operational and logistics systems implemented. This information will assist to inform those Councils who are looking to support national efforts to address tyre waste on what systems work best and what costs should be budgeted.
The program will also support utilisation and reduce the perceived risk of recycled products to assist in growing demand and support a more robust tyre recycling market and more diverse TDP consuming manufacturing sector.
The initial program will be evaluated and subject to the outcomes of the pilot TSA will look to release future rounds.
