The Tyre Stewardship Fund is actively supporting a range of new product and market developments across 29 projects, with over $4 Million committed.
TSA & Polymeric Powders: Rubber-Plastic Composite
TSA funded project with the Polymeric Powders to develop and test a rubber crumb and plastic composite. Product injection moulded into non-pressure pipe. This new composite material has very desirable properties, when compared to traditional plastics. The new composite material can also be use in 3D printing.
TSA & University of SA: Crumb Rubber Concrete
TSA funded project with the University of South Australia to test that reinforced crumb rubber concrete is an economically viable and sustainable alternative to conventional reinforced concrete for residential structural engineering applications.
TSA & City of Mitcham - Crumb Rubber Asphalt
TSA funded project with the City of Mitcham in South Australia to test the benefits of crumb rubber asphalt over expansive clay soils to provide longer life and less maintenance.
TSA & Flexiroc : Equine Air Porous Rubberised Concrete Pavement
TSA funded project with Flexiroc. Trialing Equine Air, the new porous pavement system that uses recycled rubber from tyres and concrete.
TSA & Lomwest Enterprises : C4M wall system
TSA funded project with accredited recycler, Lomwest Enterprises, has created a multi-application, high-performance wall system using baled end-of-life tyres sandwiched between highly stable concrete skins. C4m units can be used for retaining, sound barriers, river and blast walls, cyclone shelters and even race track impact barriers.
TSA National Crumb Rubber Roads
Tyre Stewardship Australia with Australian Asphalt Pavement Association, Australian Road Research Board and State Road Authorities focused on the transfer of proven crumb rubber modified (CRM) surfacing technologies to demonstrate the benefits of longer life and less maintenance compared to conventional asphalt. This resulted in the creation of national specifications for open and gap graded asphalt using crumb rubber modified bitumen in Australia.
