What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

This project provides a basis to standardise testing and classification for crumb rubber modified binders in a way that supports its usage in road construction. It allows the preparation of binder formulations that can be checked against a known standard and set of classifications, and make it easier for road managers to request rubber containing asphalts from the market while having the confidence that suppliers can respond through meeting those defined specifications.

Project Goals:

  • Comprehensively characterise crumb rubber modified binders
  • Suggest a performance based classification system
  • Promote the use of crumb rubber in paving applications
