What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

TSA's Market Development Fund

Funding that supports circular solutions

TSA provides financial support to projects that demonstrate how end-of-life tyres can be transformed into high-value products and infrastructure.

Whether you're a business, local government or research partner, we offer co-investment for projects that turn ideas into action.

Grants up to $300,000 are available under two funding streams: Demonstration & Infrastructure Projects and Research & Development.

Funding overview

Building a circular economy for Australia’s used tyres

TSA’s Market Development Fund helps build a stronger future for tyre recycling in Australia. Our goal is to create real, long-term demand for tyre-derived material (TDM) by supporting product innovation, infrastructure trials and local manufacturing.

We support partnerships across research, industry and government — helping bring technically sound, commercially viable and environmentally responsible products to market.

Investment for the future

To minimise the environmental and health impacts of end-of-life tyres, Australia needs diverse and scalable end markets for tyre-derived material.

TSA funds initiatives that:

  • Show strong industry or community benefit
  • Create new or expanded demand for tyre-derived material
  • Align with circular economy goals and net zero pathways
  • Help solve challenges like stockpiling or illegal dumping
  • Are ready to move from testing to trial or commercialisation

What we fund

In deciding which projects to fund, TSA prioritises those that demonstrate one or more of the following attributes:

  • Clearly increase demand for tyre-derived material in domestic markets

  • Use Australian-generated end-of-life tyres as a core input

  • Deliver measurable environmental benefits, such as lower emissions or improved resource efficiency

  • Align with local, state or national circular economy strategies or procurement policies

  • Involve strong collaboration across industry, government and research sectors

  • Enable regional development, Indigenous partnerships or social procurement outcomes

  • Support the development of technical standards, specifications or approvals for new products

  • Demonstrate readiness for commercialisation or real-world deployment

  • Present a scalable model with potential for broader market uptake

  • Address barriers to adoption, such as public perception, technical feasibility or cost competitiveness

Important notes

  • TSA will consider alternative project models, partnerships or proposals, so long as they can clearly contribute to achieving TSA’s strategic outcomes.

  • All funded activities must use Australian-sourced tyre-derived material for the full project duration. Projects in the Demonstration & Infrastructure stream must also use Australian-generated tyre-derived material in both the infrastructure and the demonstration phases.

  • For more details on eligibility, desired outcomes and assessment criteria, refer to the relevant Fund Guidelines below.

Funding Streams & Guidelines

The Fund is open to businesses, researchers, and organisations working across:

  1. Demonstration & Infrastructure Projects
This stream supports practical, on-the-ground trials and large-scale demonstrations of tyre-derived materials in infrastructure or manufacturing settings. It’s ideal for organisations looking to prove performance, safety and commercial readiness in real-world conditions.

  2. Research & Development
This stream funds applied research that addresses market barriers, supports technical development, or improves the safety and performance of tyre-derived products and processes. Open to universities, research organisations and innovation-focused industry groups.
