What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

This project will study the structural behaviour of precast reinforced concrete (RC)–used tyres bale sandwich wall panel system and enable the product to be used for practical construction projects. More information on the performance of the product will enable end users to utilise the product with confidence. It will also quantify the various benefits of doing so, and identify potential risks.

The outcomes of the project will be a study of the performance qualities of the RC tyre bale which will enable the product to be utilised more broadly for construction purposes thereby increasing the utilisation of Australian waste tyres for productive outcomes. This sandwich wall panel can be placed side-by-side or on top of each other to form a continuous wall system. The internal voids in between the tyres and RC walls are filled by pouring in-situ concrete on site. The resulting wall system can be used as retaining wall, blast resistant wall, exterior walls for thermal housing, etc.
