What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) is calling out to all Tyre Retailers to be vigilant as we get closer to the waste export ban on all whole used tyres, including baled tyres which comes into effect 1 December 2021.

TSA is concerned that as the ban nears, heightened activity of collecting waste tyres may occur. Organisations that fail to meet regulatory requirements and TSA Scheme guidelines may enter the market in the lead up to the ban for a quick injection of revenue. This comes at a time where compliant organisations are required to change their business model, pricing structure and practices. For some, significant investment is necessary to transition from baling for export to other means of processing, such as shredding and crumbing.

We ask that Tyre Retailers keep a watchful eye for new “pop-up” collectors offering cheap EOLT collections. We encourage tyre retailers to conduct due diligence on service providers engaged to collect waste tyres. The use of TSA accredited collectors and recyclers provides assurance that operators are meeting regulatory and Scheme guidelines.

If you see or hear of illegal dumping and stockpiling of waste tyres, please advise TSA by emailing getonboard@tyrestewardship.org.au
