What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

Off-the-road (OTR) tyres, used extensively in mining and agriculture, present unique challenges for recycling due to their varied compositions.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) commissioned a study to examine the material components of these tyres, aiming to inform better recycling and recovery strategies.

Key aspects of the study include:

  • Testing of 14 OTR tyres across different sizes and applications
  • Analysis of rubber types, fillers, and reinforcing materials
  • Comparison between mining and agricultural tyre compositions
  • Insights into material variations affecting recycling processes

Understanding the specific makeup of OTR tyres is crucial for developing effective recycling methods and advancing Australia's circular economy initiatives.

Tyre Stewardship Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live, work, and depend. We acknowledge the unique spiritual and cultural connection, and continuing aspiration that the Traditional Owners have for Country and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
