What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

TSA’s Best Practice Guidelines for Tyre Storage and Fire and Emergency Preparedness provide practical advice for managing end-of-life tyres safely and responsibly.

These nationally applicable guidelines are designed for tyre recyclers, collectors and businesses that store large volumes of tyres, outlining how to reduce fire risks, comply with regulatory requirements, and protect staff, property and the environment. The latest version includes updated regulations, licensing requirements, site layout planning, and emergency preparedness procedures.

Key topics covered include:

  • Indoor and outdoor tyre storage configurations
  • Site access and stockpile separation
  • Fire risk assessments and emergency planning
  • Compliance with WHS laws and environmental regulations
  • Security and ignition source control measures

These guidelines support TSA’s commitment to improving safety standards and promoting environmentally sound use of end-of-life tyres across Australia.
