What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

Tipping the Balance is a landmark research report commissioned by Tyre Stewardship Australia to investigate the scale and management of off-the-road (OTR) tyres, rubber conveyor belts, and rubber tracks across key industries — including mining, agriculture, and construction.

These products represent some of Australia’s most complex and least understood rubber waste streams. The report quantifies the challenge and explores pathways to recovery and reuse that can shift the system toward more circular, accountable outcomes.

Inside, you'll find:

  • National estimates of OTR, conveyor, and track waste volumes
  • Industry-specific disposal practices and barriers to recovery
  • Environmental and economic implications of current end-of-life practices
  • Recommendations to support improved traceability, infrastructure, and investment

This report is essential reading for policymakers, procurement teams, regulators, and industry leaders driving change in heavy industry and resource recovery.

Tyre Stewardship Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live, work, and depend. We acknowledge the unique spiritual and cultural connection, and continuing aspiration that the Traditional Owners have for Country and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
