What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

Every year, Australia generates approximately 67 million end-of-life (EOL) tyres.

Understanding how these tyres flow through the supply chain — from generation and collection through to processing, reuse, or export — is critical to achieving more sustainable, transparent, and traceable outcomes.

This report provides a snapshot of the national used tyre supply chain, including:

  • Estimated volumes of tyres entering and exiting each stage of the system
  • Proportions recovered for recycling, repurposing, or energy recovery
  • Pathways for domestic processing versus export
  • Key data sources used to monitor and report on tyre flows

This information supports Tyre Stewardship Australia’s strategies of strengthening environmental outcomes, promoting market development, and identifying opportunities for intervention across the tyre lifecycle.

Tyre Stewardship Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live, work, and depend. We acknowledge the unique spiritual and cultural connection, and continuing aspiration that the Traditional Owners have for Country and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
