Some businesses and organisations are involved in both the collection and recycling of end-of-life tyres, while others operate solely as either:
A Tyre Collector, which is an individual, business or organisation that collects and/or transports EOLT in any part of Australia for recycling, reuse or disposal
OR
A Tyre Recycler, which is a business or organisation recovering rubber, steel, textile and/or other materials and processing it into a form whereby it can be used as an intermediate product in the manufacture of Tyre Derived Material, or to recover energy from end-of-life tyres.
They include:
Waste tyre collectors
Waste tyre recyclers and processors
Automotive dismantlers and recyclers
Transport, freight and logistics companies
Industry associations that represent used tyre collectors and recyclers
Through TSA, collectors and recyclers that manage tyres responsibly can become an accredited participant in the Scheme. This means they become part of a trusted network that:
shows retailers and consumers they can trust that their used tyres will be managed responsibly and go to productive use
reduces the environmental, social and economic risks of tyres going to waste through landfill, illegal stockpiles and dumping
helps deter unlawful operators
supports Australian manufacturers to produce tyre derived material which can be used to build better roads, sporting fields and many other surfaces and products
helps avoid the risk of greenwashing
benefits from market development activities which increase demand for tyre derived material in Australia
