What we do

Driving sustainable outcomes for Australia's used tyres is our priority.

We run the national and voluntary Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (TPSS) to help reduce the environmental, health and safety impacts of tyres which reach their end of life in Australia.

Tyre recovery in remote and regional Australia presents unique challenges — and the Northern Territory is no exception.

Developed in partnership with the NT government, Local Government Association of NT, local government, industry associations, resource recovery sector participants and community members; this report examines the current state of tyre recycling in the NT and identifies pathways to strengthen local processing, reduce illegal dumping, and improve end-of-life tyre (EOLT) outcomes across the region.

Key insights include:

  • Current EOLT generation and disposal practices in the NT
  • Barriers to recovery and processing in remote areas
  • Opportunities for improved collection, aggregation, and market development
  • Recommendations for stakeholders, including government and industry

This report supports targeted action and investment in one of Australia’s most logistically complex environments.

Tyre Stewardship Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which we live, work, and depend. We acknowledge the unique spiritual and cultural connection, and continuing aspiration that the Traditional Owners have for Country and we pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
